Advertiser disclosure: we may earn a commission when you join an operator through links on this page. It never changes our scores. How we make money.

Nearly every licensed bookmaker in Ghana is a betting site with Mobile Money: you deposit from MTN MoMo, AT Money or Telecel Cash with a prompt on your phone, and winnings go back to the same wallet. Where sites differ is in which networks they support, how long payouts take, the smallest amount they accept and how they handle a payment that leaves your wallet but never reaches your balance. This page compares MoMo betting sites on those points and walks through each step.

These values come from our operator records, which follow each bookmaker's own cashier and help pages. An empty cell means we have not confirmed that detail from an official source. Before you pay, the merchant name on your MoMo approval prompt should match the bookmaker or the payment company named on its cashier page.

From the operators' own help pages: SportyBet lists MTN, AT and Telecel wallets plus Visa and Mastercard; Betway lists the three wallets together with cards and its own USSD and top-up routes; betPawa, Bangbet, Betika and Odibets list all three networks. SportyBet and Betika also publish USSD routes for punters without mobile data, explained in their reviews.

How a MoMo deposit works, step by step

  1. Log in to the betting site or app and open Deposit.
  2. Choose your network: MTN, Telecel or AT.
  3. Enter the amount in cedis and the wallet number. On most sites it must be the number registered on your betting account.
  4. A payment prompt appears on your phone. Check the merchant name and amount, then enter your MoMo PIN on that prompt only.
  5. Wait for two confirmations: the SMS from your network and the credit on your betting balance.

If the prompt does not appear, your phone may be locked, out of network, or the session may have timed out. Some sites offer an alternative route through the MTN *170# menu or the MoMo app, where you pay the bookmaker as a merchant. Use only the details printed on the bookmaker's own cashier page.

MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AT Money compared

WalletWhat to know for betting
MTN MoMoThe most widely accepted. Wallets have tiered daily limits, so large deposits may need a higher tier. MTN offers a self-service reversal for mistaken transfers.
Telecel CashThe former Vodafone Cash, renamed after Telecel took over Vodafone Ghana. Accepted by most big bookmakers; old "Vodafone" labels still appear on some cashiers.
AT MoneyThe former AirtelTigo Money. Supported by fewer sites, so check the payments row before you register.

A popular search is for "MTN MoMo Betway" and similar brand-plus-wallet phrases. The answer for any brand is in its review and in the table above; we do not print merchant numbers from forums, because fake numbers are a common trick.

Withdrawing winnings to Mobile Money

Payouts are requested from the bookmaker's Withdraw page. The operator sends the money to your wallet, which often takes minutes but can take longer if the request triggers identity checks, exceeds a daily limit, or lands during maintenance. Three rules prevent most problems:

  • Withdraw to the same wallet you deposited from, registered in the same name as your betting account.
  • Finish any bonus rollover before requesting a payout; bonus funds are often locked until it is done.
  • Keep your first withdrawal small so you see the process before you need it for a big win.

Since the E-Levy and the withholding tax on winnings were repealed in 2025, a MoMo deposit or payout should not be reduced by either. If an amount looks short, ask the operator for a breakdown and read its fees section.

When a MoMo payment goes missing

What happenedLikely reasonWhat to do
Wallet debited, betting balance unchangedDelay at the payment processorWait 15-30 minutes, then send the MoMo transaction ID to the bookmaker's support
Sent to the wrong numberTyping mistakeStart a reversal through your network quickly; MTN has a self-service option
Withdrawal "successful" but no SMSNetwork delay or wrong wallet savedCheck your MoMo statement, then the wallet number saved in your profile
Prompt never arrivedLocked phone, weak signal, session expiredRetry from the cashier, or use the merchant route printed on the site

Staying safe with MoMo and betting

  • Your PIN goes only into your network's own prompt or menu. No bookmaker, agent or "customer care" caller needs it.
  • Ignore SMS messages claiming someone sent you money by mistake and asking you to return it; check your real balance first.
  • Never pay a stranger to "unlock" a withdrawal or to buy a "sure" booking code.

Deposits that take seconds also make overspending easy. Set a weekly limit in your betting account and check your MoMo statement for betting payments. Only adults 18+ may bet. For small stakes, see the minimum deposit betting sites; for brand-specific steps, read the SportyBet deposit guide or the Betway deposit guide.

Frequently asked questions

Which betting sites accept Telecel Cash?

Most of the larger Ghanaian bookmakers list Telecel Cash alongside MTN MoMo. The payments column in our table shows what each operator publishes; check the cashier before you register.

Is there a charge for depositing into a betting account with MoMo?

The E-Levy was repealed in April 2025, so it no longer applies. Some operators or networks may still apply their own fees, which should be shown in the cashier or terms.

Can I withdraw to a MoMo number that is not mine?

Usually not. Operators match the wallet to the registered account holder, and using someone else's number is a common reason for blocked withdrawals.

What should I do if my deposit does not reflect?

Keep the MoMo transaction ID, wait a short while, then contact the bookmaker's support through its official site or app. If you sent money to the wrong number, start a reversal with your network quickly.
