How to compare betting odds in one minute
- Pick a big match, for example a Saturday EPL fixture.
- Write down the home, draw and away odds from the bookmaker.
- Work out 1 divided by each and add the three numbers together.
- The total will be above 100%. The extra is the bookmaker's margin. A total of 104% is a tighter book than 108%.
- Repeat on another site. The one with the lower total gives better odds overall on that match.
Do this on a few matches and a pattern appears quickly: some bookmakers keep tight margins on the EPL but widen them on smaller leagues, and margins are usually bigger on accumulators and exotic markets.
"Sure odds", "free odds" and odds for today
Many searches in Ghana are for "sure odds today" or "free odds today". Most of the pages and groups behind those phrases sell or share tips, not odds, and some sell them as "sure". No odds are sure. A 1.20 favourite still loses roughly one time in six or more, and stacking several "safe" 1.20 picks makes an accumulator far riskier than it looks. Dropping odds and why prices move
Odds change when money comes in, when team news breaks or when the bookmaker adjusts its own view. "Dropping odds" are prices that have fallen sharply, often because a lineup leaked or a key player is injured. Following dropping odds can tell you what the market has learned, but by the time you see the move, the best price has usually gone. Use it as information, not as a system.
Odds boosts and enhanced prices
- Price boosts: a single selection at a higher price than normal, usually with a low maximum stake.
- Acca boosts: an extra percentage on accumulator winnings, often with minimum odds per leg and a minimum number of selections.
- Best odds offers: less common in Ghana; read whether they apply to all markets or only selected ones.

Odds formats you may see
Ghanaian bookmakers show decimal odds by default. Some international sites also offer fractional odds, such as 5/2, which is the same as 3.50 in decimal, or American odds, where +250 means the same thing. If a site shows an unfamiliar format, switch it back to decimal in the settings so every price is easy to compare in cedis.
Where better odds matter most
For a punter who stakes small amounts on weekend accumulators, a 3% margin difference might feel minor. Over a season of weekly slips, it is the difference between the bookmaker taking a bigger or smaller share of everything you stake. Multiply your stake by the decimal odds. GHS 20 at 1.85 returns GHS 37, which includes your GHS 20 stake. For accumulators, multiply all the odds first.
