How to Bet on Football

A beginner walkthrough from choosing a licensed bookmaker and depositing with MoMo to placing a football bet, plus the basics of Aviator, roulette and blackjack.

To bet on football in Ghana you need to be 18+, open an account with a bookmaker licensed by the Gaming Commission, fund it with Mobile Money, tap the odds for the outcome you want, enter a stake on the slip and place the bet. That is the whole mechanical process; the skill is in choosing what to back and how much to stake. This guide covers each step, then explains how the casino games people search for, Aviator, roulette and blackjack, actually work.

Step 1: choose a licensed bookmaker

Licensed operators answer to the Gaming Commission of Ghana under the Gaming Act 2006 (Act 721), which gives you somewhere to complain if a payout goes wrong. Most show their licence details in the site footer. Offshore sites that are not on the Commission's register leave you with no local recourse. Our betting sites list focuses on operators licensed in Ghana, such as MSport, Odibets and betPawa.

Step 2: register and verify

  1. Tap Join, Register or Sign Up and enter your Ghanaian phone number.
  2. Create a password or PIN. On betPawa, according to its help pages, a 4-digit PIN becomes your login.
  3. Confirm the SMS code sent to your phone.
  4. Complete any identity check requested. The Gaming Commission has pushed operators towards stronger player verification, so expect to be asked for ID at some point, especially before a withdrawal.

Register with a number that is in your own name on MoMo. Some operators, Odibets among them, require the withdrawal number to match the one on the account.

Step 3: deposit with Mobile Money

The usual flow is the same for MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AT Money: open Deposit, choose your network, enter the amount in GHS and your number, then approve the prompt that appears on your phone with your wallet PIN. The balance should update within moments. Never type your MoMo PIN into a website or share an OTP with anyone claiming to be customer care. The Mobile Money betting sites page compares deposit options.

Step 4: read the odds

Ghanaian sites show decimal odds. Multiply your stake by the odds to get the total return. A GHS 20 stake at 1.85 returns GHS 37, which is GHS 17 profit plus your stake back. Lower odds mean the bookmaker thinks the outcome is more likely. Use our odds calculator for anything more complicated.

Step 5: pick a market

Start with a match you know. Many Ghanaians follow the EPL closely, and Saturday afternoon kick-offs fill the coupon, but a Kotoko or Hearts of Oak game you have watched all season may teach you more about pricing than a league you never see.

Step 6: place, track and withdraw

  1. Tap the price; it lands on your slip.
  2. Choose single or multiple, enter your stake and check the potential return.
  3. Place the bet and note the ticket ID.
  4. Follow it under My Bets. Some operators offer cash-out to settle early.
  5. Withdraw winnings to the same MoMo number. Expect verification on the first withdrawal.

Our bet slip guide explains every line on the ticket.

Aviator: how to play

Aviator is a crash game offered in the casino sections of several Ghanaian operators. You place a stake before the round, a plane takes off and a multiplier climbs, and you must cash out before the plane flies away. Cash out at 1.50x and a GHS 10 stake returns GHS 15; if the plane leaves first, the stake is lost. Each round's crash point is set by a random number generator, so there is no pattern to read. "How to win" guides, predictor apps and signal groups do not work; they are scams. Learn more on our Aviator page.

Roulette: how to play

A roulette wheel has numbered pockets, plus a zero. You place chips on a single number, a group of numbers or an even-money bet such as red or black, then the wheel spins and the ball settles in one pocket. Single numbers pay most and hit least. The zero is what gives the house its edge on every spin. See the roulette guide for bet types.

Blackjack: how to play

In blackjack you try to finish closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. Number cards count face value, picture cards count 10 and an ace counts 1 or 11. You see your two cards and one dealer card, then choose to hit (take a card), stand, double or split pairs. Basic strategy charts reduce the house edge but never remove it. The blackjack page goes deeper.

All betting and casino play is for adults 18+. Set a deposit limit before your first bet, not after a bad night.

Frequently asked questions

How do I bet on football in Ghana as a beginner?

Open an account with a licensed bookmaker, deposit with MoMo, tap the odds for a result, enter a small stake on the slip and place it. Start with singles on matches you know.

What do I need to open a betting account?

You must be 18 or older, have a Ghanaian phone number and usually a Mobile Money wallet in your name. ID may be requested for verification.

How do I play Aviator?

Stake before the round, watch the multiplier rise and cash out before the plane flies away. Rounds are random, so no app or signal can tell you when it will crash.

How are betting winnings calculated?

Stake multiplied by decimal odds gives the total return. For a multiple, all leg odds are multiplied first. Any payout caps or bonus rules in the operator's terms also apply.

Can I withdraw to a different MoMo number?

Usually not. Many operators only pay to the number registered on the account, so register with your own wallet number from the start.
