Roulette is a casino game where a ball is spun on a numbered wheel and you bet on where it will land: a single number, a colour, odd or even, or a group of numbers. Online, you can play roulette against a random number generator or at a live table with a real dealer streamed to your phone. The best version for a Ghanaian player is single-zero European roulette, because it has the lowest house edge of the common tables. Here is how the game works, what each bet pays and how to play it sensibly.
The roulette wheel and table
A European wheel has 37 pockets: numbers 1 to 36, alternating red and black, plus a single green zero. An American wheel adds a second green pocket, the double zero, making 38. The betting table (the layout) mirrors these numbers in a grid with outside boxes for colours, odd/even, high/low, dozens and columns.
| Version | Pockets | House edge | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| European | 37 (single zero) | About 2.7% | Best standard choice |
| French | 37 (single zero) | About 1.35% on even-money bets with La Partage | Less common on Ghanaian apps |
| American | 38 (zero and double zero) | About 5.26% | Avoid when a single-zero table is available |
These edges come from the geometry of the wheel, not from any operator setting, so they hold wherever the table is honest.
Roulette bets and payouts
Inside bets
- Straight up (one number): pays 35 to 1.
- Split (two adjacent numbers): 17 to 1.
- Street (row of three): 11 to 1.
- Corner (four numbers): 8 to 1.
- Six line (two rows): 5 to 1.
Outside bets
- Red/black, odd/even, 1-18/19-36: 1 to 1.
- Dozens and columns: 2 to 1.
On a European table, the zero is the reason the house wins over time: a red bet loses when zero lands, even though zero is neither red nor black. A GHS 10 bet on red returns GHS 20 on a red result and nothing on black or zero.
How to play roulette online, step by step
- Open the casino tab of a licensed operator and search for "roulette".
- Choose a single-zero table. Check the minimum and maximum stake shown on the table.
- Select a chip value in GHS and tap the layout to place bets.
- Press spin (RNG) or wait for the dealer to close bets (live).
- Winning bets are paid automatically; you can repeat or clear bets for the next spin.
RNG roulette versus live dealer
| RNG roulette | Live dealer | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | As fast as you tap | Roughly one spin a minute |
| Data use | Light | Heavy video stream |
| Minimum stakes | Often very low | Usually higher |
| Feel | Animated wheel | Real wheel and dealer |
Fast RNG tables let you make many more bets per hour, which means you meet the house edge more often. A slower live table can actually cost less per hour for the same stake.
Common roulette mistakes
- Choosing American by accident. Lobby tiles look alike; open the table and count the green pockets before betting.
- Covering too many numbers. Spreading chips over 30 numbers feels safe, but the payouts are set so the zero still costs you on average, and a single miss wipes most of the stake.
- Reading the history board. The list of recent results suggests patterns ("red is hot"). Each spin is independent; the wheel has no memory.
- Racing through RNG spins. Speed multiplies the edge. Use a slower pace or a live table.
Free roulette play
Many RNG roulette games offer a demo with virtual chips. It is a good way to learn the layout and see how quickly a balance moves. Remember that the demo has the same maths as the real game.
Roulette systems: do they work?
Martingale (doubling after every loss), D'Alembert and Fibonacci are popular. None changes the house edge. Martingale feels safe because it wins small amounts often, but a run of six or seven losses, which happens, requires a stake 64 or 128 times the first bet, and table limits stop the chain. A system can change the shape of results, never their direction.
A sensible roulette session in cedis
- Session budget first, for example GHS 50.
- Outside bets at GHS 1 to 2 give you many spins; straight-up bets drain faster on average swings.
- Pick a stop-loss and a stop-win before the first spin.
- Avoid "roulette prediction" software and Telegram tips; they are scams.

Frequently asked questions
Which roulette has the best odds?
European or French single-zero roulette. American roulette has a double zero and almost twice the house edge.
How much does a single number pay in roulette?
A straight-up bet on one number pays 35 to 1, so GHS 2 returns GHS 72 including the stake.
Can I play roulette for free?
Many RNG roulette games have a demo mode with virtual chips. Live dealer tables usually require real money.
Does the martingale system beat roulette?
No. It wins small amounts often but loses large amounts on a losing streak. The house edge stays the same.
