Picks from France's top flight with kick-off times in Ghana time, the reasoning behind each one and notes on how the league behaves.

No prediction is ever sure. Tips here are opinions built on form and statistics, so treat them as research, not a promise. 18+.

Our Ligue 1 predictions bring you picks from France's top division each round: the match, the market, the odds when we posted and the reason. Most French games kick off in the afternoon or evening, between about 12:00 and 20:00 GMT, which fits easily into a Ghanaian weekend. Ligue 1 gets less attention here than the English Premier League, and that is one reason it is worth a look: smaller fixtures sometimes carry prices the market has not studied as closely.

Each line shows the kick-off in GMT, the market and the price. France is one hour ahead of Ghana in winter and two hours ahead in summer. Picks are reviewed when team sheets are published, and anything withdrawn is marked.

How Ligue 1 is set up

Ligue 1 has had 18 clubs since the 2023-24 season, so each team plays 34 league games rather than 38. Fewer rounds mean a little more rest between matches and a short winter break. Paris Saint-Germain have been the dominant force for more than a decade, so the interesting betting questions are often elsewhere: the race for European places, the fight against relegation and the many mid-table games in between.

French football also produces a lot of young talent, and clubs regularly sell their best players. Squads can look quite different after each transfer window, which is why we put little weight on last season's results in the first weeks of a new campaign.

Our approach to French matches

  1. Expected goals before results. In a league with frequent squad turnover, chance quality settles faster than the table.
  2. Home and away split. Some sides are much stronger at home, especially where crowds are loud; we check each venue's record separately.
  3. European schedule. French clubs in European competitions play Tuesday to Thursday, and the weekend after can see rotation.
  4. Team news and suspensions once squads are named.
  5. Price check. We only post a pick when our estimate clearly beats the probability implied by the odds.

PSG games and the short-price problem

When the strongest club is a heavy favourite almost every week, its match odds are often too short to be useful. Backing it at a very low price wins most weeks and still leaves little profit, because one upset wipes out many small wins. When we have a view on those games, it is more often a handicap, a goals line or a "both teams to score: no" angle than a straight win. For lower-risk angles on other fixtures, see our double chance predictions.

Ligue 1 correct score and goals lines

Ligue 1 correct score predictions are popular in search, and as with every league the most likely score rarely lands more than about one time in nine or ten. We prefer goals lines, which are less volatile. When a French fixture shows two open, attacking sides, it may appear on our over 2.5 goals list as well.

African players and why Ghanaians watch French football

French clubs have long been a first stop in Europe for African players, Ghanaians among them, and many fans here follow Ligue 1 for that reason. It is a good reason to watch, but a poor reason to bet. Supporting a player you know can tilt your judgement of his team's chances, in the same way that backing your favourite EPL club can. When a pick involves a side with players you follow closely, read our reasoning, then ask whether you would make the same bet if you had never heard of them.

The same caution applies to news. Transfer stories and social media hype around young players move quickly in France, and a single highlight clip says little about how a team defends over ninety minutes.

Staking Ligue 1 picks in cedis

Use the same level unit you use everywhere else. If your monthly budget is GHS 400, a unit of GHS 5 to GHS 8 is reasonable. Do not raise stakes on French games because the prices look bigger than on the EPL; bigger odds simply reflect a lower chance. For a longer explanation of level staking and budgets, read our betting strategy guide.

Ligue 1 mistakes to avoid

  • Stacking the favourite every week. Very short prices in accumulators add risk without much reward.
  • Using last season's form in August. Transfers reshape French squads quickly.
  • Forgetting there are only 18 clubs. The run-in starts earlier than in 20-team leagues, and motivation shifts sooner.
  • Ignoring the winter break. Form before and after the pause can differ.

Frequently asked questions

How many teams are in Ligue 1?

Eighteen since the 2023-24 season, so each club plays 34 league matches.

What time are Ligue 1 games in Ghana?

Most start between about 12:00 and 20:00 GMT. France is one hour ahead of Ghana in winter and two hours ahead in summer.

Do you back PSG every week?

No. Their match odds are often too short to be good value, so we look at handicaps or goals markets when we have a view.

When are Ligue 1 picks published?

Usually the day before each match, with a recheck once team sheets are released about an hour before kick-off.

Are Ligue 1 odds better than EPL odds?

Not better, just less closely watched in some smaller fixtures. Higher odds reflect lower chances, so the same staking discipline applies.
