Tanker operators have begun the free distribution water to residents in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region.
This comes after Member of Parliament of the area Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama paid a sun of ¢10,000 to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) for the service.
Residents of Nayilifong and Kumfong are the first to benefit from the benevolence on Thursday, 8th Apri, 2021.
The Yendi township and other communities in the outskirts of the municipality are also scheduled to be supplied.
The initiative by the MP is a stopgap measure for the acute water shortage that has hit Yendi for some time now.
The situation has affected economic activities of residents in the area.
However, efforts are in place by the GWCL to dredge River Dakar, a major source of portable drinking for Yendi and its environs.
