The Electoral Commission (EC) says it has registered over 9 million eligible voters in just 20 days of the ongoing voter registration exercise.
A Chair of the EC, Samuel Tettey told journalists the the exercise has entered day two of the fourth phase, and has registered a total of 9,860,164 eligible voters.
He further explained that the figure represents 65.7 percent of their projected total number of eligible persons.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Samuel Tettey stated that after the third phase of the exercise, which was Day 18, the electoral roll had 8,246,140 voters, adding a sum of that and the total number for the first two days of fourth phase came to over nine million.
“As of Day 18 we had 8, 246, 40 registered voters, which represents 54.97 percent of the total number of projected people. But after Day 2 of the fourth phase, we have recorded 9, 860,164 which is 65.7 percent,” he said.
He however explained that those figures are provisional, and would only be validated after the exercise so the public should treat it as such.
