Stop being irresponsible and accept defeat – GFA to South Africa FA

The Ghana Football Association has called on the South African Football Association to put an end to the lies, disrespect and accept the defeat of their National team to the Black Stars.

The GFA in a strongly-worded statement condemned the behaviour and comments made by officials and the President of SAFA in the aftermath of the World Cup qualifier in Cape Coast on Sunday in which their National team known as the Bafana Bafana lost by a lone goal to the Black Stars.

The GFA described the behaviour of SAFA as “irresponsible, and outright disrespect” adding that South Africa started peddling falsehood days before the match itself.

SAFA has filed an official complaint to FIFA to investigate the match for alleged referee bias and suspected match manipulation.

They have also highlighted concerns over what they described as suspicious betting patterns on the match in which Ghana won courtesy of Andre Ayew’s first-half penalty.

But the GFA in a statement on Thursday, November 18, said even though it was within the rights of SAFA to call for an investigation, “the way and manner lies and allegations have been thrown into the public space has been very irresponsible leading to injury and violence”.

“We wish to state categorically that the allegations are frivolous, baseless and lacks merits and should be treated with all the contempt that it deserves.

“These allegations from South Africa Football Association are nothing but a planned scheme and a calculated attempt to shift focus from the defeat, divert attention from their failure to qualify for the play-offs and unjustly dent the hard-earned victory of the Black Stars.”
