“President Akuffo-Addo won’t go unopposed” – John Boadu reveals

General Secretary of the ruling Patriotic Party John Boadu has disclosed President Akuffo-Addo will be contest by any qualified candidate when the party opens nominations for the presidential primaries.

He said it is enshrined in the party’s constitution for an open contest for any member to join the flagbearer race provided he/she meets the requirements or in good standing.

“We will present the vetting report for the National Council to accept before we go to elect the Presidential Candidate on April 25, 2020. Even if nobody contests him, it doesn’t end there; we have to go for national congress to acclaim him as our candidate,”

he explained.

This come in sharp contrast to widespread demands for incumbent Members of Parliament of the party in the Ashanti Region to go unopposed.

The campaign was strongly opposed by some party faithfuls whiles other political actors saw the move to disrupt democratic process of electing candidates.

The National Council (NC), which is the highest decision making body of the party remain tight lipped on the matter and is yet to make any declaration.

The NPP will on 25th April, 2020 hold phase II of its parliamentary primaries in constituencies with siting MP followed by the election of a presidential candidate to lead the party in the December 2020 elections.
