Imams in Tamale halts congregational prayer over Covid-19

Some highly respected Imams and preachers in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital have adhered to government’s directive to temporarily halt religious gatherings.

Sheikh Dalhu Abdul-Mumim, Northern Regional Chief Imam of the Shia Community yesterday (Tuesday) announced the suspension of congregational Jummah prayer at the Ahlul Bayt Mosque untill further notice.

He urged his followers to inform him of any suspected case and urged members of the Muslim fraternity to pray against the deadly Covid-19 virus.

However, Sheikh Ibrahim Basha has also done same at the Masjidul Bayaan until further notice.

The Al-Bayaan Institute reported the five daily prayer as well as Jummah have all been suspended in conformity with President Akuffo-Addo’s directive.

“Though the call to prayer shall continue in the Masjid but every individual is expected to observe the prayer in his/her abode,”

Sheikh Bayaan, affectionately called Afa Basha stated.

The revered Islamic Cleric also admonished Muslims and Non-Muslims) to follow the instructions, guidelines and protocols issued by the Ghana Health Service and other specialized bodies in the fight against the global pandemic.
