Fulanis demand arrest of NDC Communications Officer for attacking Second Lady

The Fulani Association in the Bawku (Pulaaku) is demanding the immediate arrest of Paul Abagri Ayamba, the NDC’s deputy Communications Officer in the Binduri constituency for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the Second Lady of the Republic, Hajja Samira Bawumia.

The Association has accused Mr. Paul Ayamba of calling Mrs. Bawumia a “Stupid Fulani Woman” and sexual abuse by calling her a “Prostitute” on social media.

The Association at the press conference Sunday, 22nd March and addressed by its President, Kuridu Mohammed Mumuni noted the utterances by Mr. Ayamba upon no provocation is not only derogatory, but ethnocentric against the entire Fulani Community in Ghana.

We the Fulani Association do not only find these comments as derogatory and ethnocentric but also an attack on all Fulanis and other minority tribes within Binduri and beyond. These tribally segregating comments have the potential of derailing the peace that co-exists between the various tribes in Binduri.

According to the Association, it is a taboo in the Fulani tradition for a married woman to be engaged in extra material affairs.

The Fulani Community in Bawku (Pulaaku) has therefore called on the security authorities to pickup Mr. Paul Ayamba and compel him to substantiate his comments.

“We call on the state security apparatus to act swiftly in defense of Article 17(2) of the 1992 constitution which states, “that no citizen shall be discriminated against on the basis of gender, race or religion” and pick Mr. Paul Abagre Ayamba up for questioning.”

It will be recalled the Second Lady in an interview on Asempa FM’s “Ekonsii sen” programme which was subsequently published on ghanaweb.com on 10th March, 2020 urged politicians (especially those in the NDC) to always challenge her husband (Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia) with facts rather than throwing insults at him.

In reaction to the publication, the Deputy Communication Officer made derogatory comments against Hajia Samira Bawumia by describing her as a “Stupid Fulani woman” and a “Prostitute.”

However, the Association finds the silence of the opposition NDC in the Binduri constituency in the Upper East region worrying and has called the leadership of the party to condemn and distance itself from such comments.

The Group further cautioned all political parties to treat them (Fulani) with outmost respect in their public engagements.

“The Fulanis are very cognizant of our right to personal dignity. For that matter any attempt to trample upon this right will be met with full resistance going forward,”

they stressed.
