Ban on public gatherings extended till end of May

President Akufo-Addo has announced the extension of the ban on social gathering till end of May with immediate effect to contain the spread of the Novel Coronavirus pandemic.

The extension of the restrictions comes in the wake of increase cases of Covid-19 from 4,012 to 4,263 within the last 48hours.

President Akufo-Addo in his 9th Nation Address delivered Sunday May 11 on measures against Covid-19 stated the ban on conferences, workshops, funerals, religious activities, political party rallies, weddings and schools both public and private remain closed till the end of May.

“Tonight, I have come into your homes to announce that the ban on public gatherings as set out in Executive Instrument (EI) number 64 has been extended also till the end of the month. ie; 31st May, 2020.”

The ban was first imposed by the President on 15th March, 2020 in a televised address.

According to him, “We are fight a common enemy. No room for political, religious, tribal and other interest.
