Akufo-Addo directs Interior Minister to investigate Ejura deaths

President Akufo-Addo has instructed Interior Minister, Mr Ambrose Dery to within 10 days probe the shooting and killing of two protesters by security personnel at Ejura in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, 29th June, 2021.

Protest erupted after the burial of #FixTheCountry campaigner and activist, Ibrahim Mohammed Kaaka who was murdered by some unknown men in the early hour of Tuesday.

Military personnel who were deployed to restore calm were captured on tape firing live bullets into the crowd and as result killing two and injured four people.

Director of Communications at Presidency (Jubilee House) in a statement said Mr Dery is expected to conduct a Public Inquiry into the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.

“The Interior Minister is to provide a detailed report from the Inquiry, with recommendations for appropriate action, within ten days, i.e., by 9th July 2021, to President Akufo-Addo,” the statement noted.

However, the President has also expressed regret over the death of three person as he conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.

He also wished those injured and in critical conditions a speedy recovery.

“The President is deeply saddened by the deaths of Ibrahim Mohammed, alias ‘Kaaka’, Abdul Nasir Yussif and Murtala Mohammed. He extends sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery, Mr Arhin concluded.
