AFCON 2022: Cameroon celebrate first tournament victory after beating Burkina Faso

Host Cameron came from a goal down to beat Burkina Faso 2 – 1 in match day 1 in the ongoing 2022 African Cup of Nations Sunday evening at the Stade Olembe Stadium in the capital Yaoundé.

The Les Etalons took an early lead courtesy a brilliant first half goal by midfielder Gustavo Sangare in the 24th minute.

But the Indomitable Lions leveled from a carefully converted spot kick by skipper Vincent Aboubakar in the 40th minute.

The experienced and former FC Porto striker who is making a 9th AFCON appearance put another pass goalkeeper Harve Koffi in the 48 minutes before the first half whistle to earn all 3 points for the Lions.

Burkina kept pushing forward for an equalizer as second half substitute Mohamed Konate has the merest hint of a sight of goal for from a tight angle.

He gets his shot on target but goalkeeper Andre Onana was able to prevent the ball from going pass him.

However, Vincent Aboubakar brace coupled with his electrifying performance got him the Man of The Match award as Cameroon occupied top sport in Group A.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia are set to slug it out Cape Verde in another Group A encounter.
